World Bank: Expansion of Middle East War Will Affect Global Economy

WASHINGTON (UNA/WAFA) – World Bank President Ajay Banga warned that a significant expansion of the Israeli war in Gaza could have major implications for the global economy, describing the heavy loss of civilian life in the region as “unacceptable.”

Banga added in a press interview on Tuesday evening that the war has had a relatively small impact on the global economy so far, but a significant expansion of the conflict would attract other countries that contribute more to global growth, including commodity exporters.

“I think this massive loss of life, women, children and other civilians, is unacceptable to all parties,” he added.

He continued that the economic impact of this war depends largely on how widespread it is, and if it spreads regionally, it will become a completely different matter, as it will start moving to places that contribute much more to the global economy.
