In accordance with Rule 5 of the Rules of Procedure of the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Cabinet of the Secretary-General shall assume the following tasks:

• Affairs of the Organization’s conferences and meetings and the preparation of the final version of the Secretary-General’s reports;

• Follow up and coordination of the work of General Departments;

• Coordination with the Subsidiary Organs;

• Follow up on the activities of, and coordination with, non-governmental organizations;

• Matters relating to Protocol, communication and privileges and immunities of the organization;

• Private secretariat.

 

Responsibilities of the Cabinet of the Secretary-General include:

• Overseeing and follow up of the  implementation of the directives of the Summit and Ministerial Council resolutions related to the work, tasks and responsibilities of the Cabinet of the Secretary-General and its relevant organizational units, and directing the heads of their affiliated organizational units in this regard.

• General supervision of the preparation of annual plans for committees and working groups meetings in accordance with the relevant approved policies and procedures.

• Cooperation and coordination with other organizational units in the General Secretariat on relevant issues to achieve the objectives of the General Secretariat.

• Coordination with the OIC institutions (Subsidiary, Specialized, and Affiliated) regarding the relevant departments in the General Secretariat and ensuring their compatibility with the legal framework that governs their work.

• Decision making regarding the work of all Departments that fall under the direct supervision of the Cabinet.

• Supervising OIC external offices, including political ones (New York, Geneva, Brussels, and Baghdad), and humanitarian ones (Niger, Afghanistan, Somalia, and Palestine). Coordinating the workflow of these offices falls within the jurisdiction of the relevant departments in the General Secretariat.

 

The Cabinet supervises the departments reporting to it, namely:

• Information Department.

• Protocol and Public Relations Department.

• Conference Department.

• Legal Affairs Department.

• Information Technology Department.

• Registry Office.

• OIC ten-year Programme of Action.

• Information Resources Center.
