OIC Secretary-General Calls for Concerted Action and Solidarity at 8th Annual Coordination Meeting of OIC Institutions

The Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), H.E. Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, delivered a speech at the 8th Annual Coordination Meeting of OIC Institutions held at the OIC headquarters in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on December 4 and 5, 2024.

At the meeting, His Excellency Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha highlighted the grave situation characterized by ongoing Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip, which have resulted in over 44,000 deaths, predominantly among children and women, and widespread destruction of infrastructure. He also drew attention to the escalating humanitarian crises in Lebanon.

H.E. Taha called on OIC institutions to redouble their efforts to support the Palestinian people and mitigate the ongoing humanitarian crisis, emphasizing the need to translate solidarity into tangible actions. He underscored the importance of enhancing coordination among OIC institutions to prevent resource duplication and build upon the achievements of previous Islamic Summit Conferences and Council of Foreign Ministers Sessions. Additionally, he stressed the urgency of preparing a comprehensive final report and implementation plan for the upcoming Ten-Year Programme of Action (2026-2035).

The Secretary-General held a productive meeting with the Heads of Delegations of OIC institutions. The meeting concluded with the signing of several memorandums of cooperation, including memorandums between the OIC General Secretariat and the Union of OIC News Agencies; SESRIC and the Union of OIC News Agencies; SESRIC and the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC); and SESRIC and Women Development Organisation (WDO).
